Because WMP for Mac is very limited in its playback abilities. Get info and see what it says the video is.

Actually WMP for Mac doesn't automatically look for a missing codec every time it notes the situation-it's not nearly as effective at looking for and finding needed codecs as the Windows version. Use Get Info to find out what codec the video was encoded with so you can then look for the right codec to play it.

Or rather, find another player that can play that video, since there is no way to install more codecs in WMP for Mac.

Actually MS has upgraded version 9 a couple of times. If you didn't download WMP directly from MS, do so; it will be more complete than from any other source.

I updated and it is working...had no idea I needed to, duh.

Whenever I see a windows media file, I know there will be some sort of hassle involved. What a drag.

Thanks guys, this site rocks!
