Hello, I am having a problem with Quicktime and VLC at the moment, which hopefully someone can help me with. When I try and play anything in either of these, the progam will launch and then freeze, with all controls greyed out. The only way I can carry on is to force quit, which is obviously less than ideal. When I look at the files in finder in the column view they play in the preview pane fine. Indeed every now and again a file will play normally, but then freeze when I try and play it again, or something else. This effects both .mov and .mpg files. Interetingly when I log in as another user on my machine I can use it fine.

I have a 1.25 GHz 15" Alu Powerbook, OS X 10.3.9, QT 6.5.2 Pro (not pro as the other user).

I don't particulalry want to upgrade to QT 7 at the moment as I could do without buying another pro key right now, especially if that won't fix the problem!!

Cheers,

Doug.

Since everything works fine when you log in as another user, I would assume it has something to do either with the preferences for QT and VLC, or, more likely, a quicktime plugin you have installed for that user. You would have to go to ~/Library/Quicktime to see if there are any plugins there that aren't in the other user's Quicktime directory.

Thankyou Himself, but unfortunately that didn't work. Both profiles look the same, and there don't appear to be any plugins at all. The only exception is that the main one is pro, and the other is not...

Very annoying.
