I can't seem to find anyway to burn a slideshow I created in iPhoto to a DVD except in 720 x 640. This looks like crap on a large screen and even on a laptop running in some of the higher resolutions. This doesn't seem right. Exporting to any app gives 720 x 640 as the highest res option, and exporting direct to iDVD through the pulldown menu gives no options but appears to be defaulting to that same res. Help!!! I have a slideshow with nice clear high res JPEGs and I can't show them to anyone unless I bring the laptop around and take the time to try and make it work with whatever big screen the family seems to have. You're burning a DVD meant to be played in a DVD player, which has a maximum resolution of 720x640. You need to burn a data DVD if you want the pictures at full resolution.

If that's the case then why does a DVD movie look great on my computer and in a plasma TV and my iPhoto slideshow recorded on DVD in the same resolution look pixelated and fuzzy even though the original is crystal clear?

Because moving images (video) gives the impression of being sharper than a single still image. Your DVD movies are at the same resolution as these slidesows - DVD resolution is at a fixed size.
If you wish to show slideshows at a higher resolution, then a DVD-Video is not your answer.

Raw jpegs dropped into iDVD always look much better so I think the problem is with iPhoto. I think it lowers the resolution of the pix -before- it processes the transitions and the result is pretty bad. I'm also disappointed with the results I get from iMovie ken burns thingy and even Final Cut Exp.
There are a couple of shareware slideshow apps you might try. they all seem to be more work then a quick iphoto export though. I tried out one called Still Life. I never got as far as burning a DVD but the output was much better than from iPhoto.
No mater what you do the pictures will never look as good on TV as on the computer. Even high def is a lower resolution than your average computer monitor.
