In Photoshop CS I used to select what was in a layer by apple-clicking on the layer i wanted to select, this was especially helpful when it was a complexly edged layer with transparency everywhere. I can't figure out how to do it in CS2. It pissed me off so much I uninstalled and reinstalled CS again to hold me over until I figured out how to do it. Thus I require the help of MacNN. Anyone know how to do this?

I don't know if this helps... but to change active layers in CS I go to the move tool (press v) and right-click. This gives a list of all the layers under the cursor in a contextual menu, and allows for quick and easy layer switching. That is in CS though...

You might get a faster answer by going to a Photoshop forum. Try this link

To create a selection of the content in a layer is still the same as in Photoshop CS, but you have to be more precise where you click. You must click on the layer preview icon ONLY, clicking on the layer name will not work! It's silly but the functionality is still there.
This is documented somewhere but I don't remember exactly where I read it.

This is really pissing me off too. I contacted Adobe about this and they said they're not aware about why it isn't working and will file this as a bug.
I'm pretty sure it's a bug because "Auto Select Layer" (select layer with left-click instead of apple-click) option isn't working either. It just select parent folder instead of digging through folder.
I'm using contextual menu to select layers for now ;(
