I've got a friend who I converted to Mac from PeeCee and I'm trying to make sure he's happy with everything. He's a musician and he had his tracks on WinMX for people to download. I've set him up with acqlite and SolarSeek which I thought would be decent replacements for his old Windows counterparts, WinMX and Soul Seek, respectively. He tells me though that with these new applications, he doesn't see nearly the number of people downloading his music as he did when he was running the Windows App.

The question is simply, are there better Mac counterparts for WinMX and Soul Seek than acqlite and SolarSeek? Is Acquisition perhaps a better choice? Maybe switching to Limewire or something? What do you folks think?

Acquisition, Acqlite, and Limewire all connect to the Gnutella network. There's also Xfactor which connects to FastTrack (Kazaa), Gnutella, OpenFT and Ares. You can search Macupdate.com for apps that connect to the Soul Seek network. There's no Mac app that connects to the WinMX network.

I haven't tried hosting my own content, but Gnutella generally seems the best to me. I've had very little success downloading with FastTrack and eDonkey, and would advise against them.

BitTorrent is a super way to distribute files, but you'd need to get the torrent file on a tracker where people can find it.

SSX is an outstanding soulseek app. Works great, fast downloads, no problems.
I prefer it over all the others.

Hope this helps.
