In Safari - the pdf of the shipping label never even triggers or downloads at all
In Firefox - the file shows up as unassociatable and offers to open or save, i am currently saving it , changing the file to a .pdf and then printing it.

Has anyone gotten this to work on safari or firefox seemlessly?

Do you have Adobe (Acrobat) Reader 7.x? After they switched to PDF, I couldn't get it to work even on WinXP until I updated Acrobat.

I use it all the time in Safari.

The USPS Click-n-Ship application is terrible, but there is hope!

After the confirmation page has loaded (the one that asks you if the labels printed ok), go to the Window menu and select Activity. At the top of the download activity listed for the USPS page there will be a PDF -- just double-click it and it'll appear in a new Safari window.

Don't forget to say "Yes" in the previous window! It's not exactly what I'd call seamless, but it works, and I've found it more agreeable than the Firefox workflow you mentioned.

Enjoy!

I have used click-n-ship twice now, and the second time was, in fact, yesterday. The way it sends the PDF is really rather strange and even misleading, since a) it trips up Safari and b) the file ends up with a strange .pdf.somethingelse extension that makes it appear to be unreadable. I just used Firefox when I noticed Safari would not download the file, and then I stripped that second extension out of the file name. Once you make the file a .pdf, Preview has no trouble with it. And if you're at all leery of using it to mail parcels, don't be - the USPS handles the items as advertised. Too bad it's a bit of chore to get it the labels to print, because it's a very nice commerce interface to deal with otherwise.

You might try using Swordfish Express (I think it is -- not on the mac right now) from Versiontracker. Prints great mailing labels with tracking, etc.

Another odd thing about the labels that Click-n-Ship produces is that the top 2D barcode is actually a button, and when clicked (in Preview) will reveal the word "Button" underneath. That's not so odd by itself until you look closely at the printout -- the word "Button" is superimposed on the 2D barcode itself (presumably rendering it useless).
