iPhoto 5 seems to have introduced a very FRUSTRATING behavior. I have several photos displayed in the app. I typically have it set to show 4 rows of 4 photos. Suppose I select a photo in the 3rd or 4th row to edit or view in detail ... either in the same window or in a separate window. I then click Done or close the separate window. One would expect the selected photo to be in the SAME PLACE you left it. But for some strange and unknown reason somebody decided that it would be a good idea to arbitrarily REPOSITION the selected photo in the top row. I see no useful purpose for this whatsoever so it definitely seems like a bug to me. It certainly didn't do it before. Imagine double-clicking an icon in the Finder to launch an application and when you returned to the Finder window you discover that the selected icon has MOVED to the top of the window all by itself. It's just plain stupid and causes the user to have to CONSTANTLY rediscover his/her "place" in the mix of photos. Often I'm going through several photos in an album and displaying them in a separate window. I should be able to close a window and go the the next photo from where I was. I shouldn't have to think about FINDING the selected photo again because it has moved for no apparent reason.

Anyone else experiencing this or is something just flaky on my machine?

Thanks!

Yup - this has been bugging me since 5.0.0. I submitted a bug on it the day I installed iLife '05, and have updated that bug with each point release indicating that it's still not fixed. It's *highly* irritating, I agree.

Well not that I think that misery loves company, but it is somewhat "comforting" to know that I'm not the only one who is experiencing this and submitting bug reports about it. OTOH, we are on the 4th point release for iPhoto 5 and it is still there. I fear someone at Apple may be considering this a "feature" instead of the bug that it definitely is.

...Which still doesn't fix the bug.

Quick question...

Does anyone know why updating to iphoto 5.04 from version 2 (I think) would stop the auto-import behaviour that it always used to have when you stuck a memory stick/mmc card in?
