I have just put a gleaming new 80GB HD in my iBook 500. I backed up my system on my iPod. Having reinstalled the OS from scratch, all is well... except that I can't find my addresses. I have Spotlighted 'AddressBook' and 'vCard' to no avail. Here's the annoying bit though: I know the contacts are still on my iPod (somewhere in the User Library presumably) as when I search for contact by name they appear. However, when I double click on them they do not open, and the 'reveal in Finder' contextual-menu-item is greyed-out. Any ideas?

I think the AddressBook data is in the ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ folder.

You'd think, wouldn't you? But for some reason, for me there are no vCards there.

However, problem solved. All contacts were still on my phone so I've iSync'd them onto my Mac.

Address book does not store vcards. It can import them and export them, but does not store its data in vcard format. It stores one master database, and then a group of individual files. The master database is in the Applicaiton Support folder (I think - not 100% sure and I'm at work so I can't check). This is the master database for your address book data..

But the series of small files - these are what spotlight indexes. All they basically do is provide some basic data and point to a specific entry inside the address book database. When you search spotlight, it finds these individual files. When you open one, Address Book opens and finds your entry in its main database.

So... long story short: Address book doesn't store vcards.
