I just had an idea for a new feature in Mail.app.

Some minutes ago, I copied a coworker's e-mail address from a terminal window, switched to Mail.app and chose 'New Message'. I pasted the e-mail address into the 'To:' field. How come Mail.app doesn't do that right away if it sees that the clipboard is holding an e-mail address? If you pull a document onto its icon, it will paste it right into a new e-mail. Why not insert the clipboard e-mail address into a new e-mail automatically as well?

BTW, I tried copying a mailto: link from a Safari window to the desktop and pulling that 'document' icon onto Mail's icon. Mail.app then tries to insert it into the e-mail body instead of inserting it into the 'To:' field. Doesn't make much sense either.

So, what are your opinions on the feature request? Should I send it off to http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback ?

Because just because the clipboard happens to be holding a compatible data type (which you may have copied, like, yesterday) doesn't mean you necessarily want to paste that data?

I often have email addresses on the clipboard ready to paste into other documents. I sure wouldn't want it pasting it into every/any new email I create while it's there.

If I want to paste something I will.
