Mail hangs when trying to create a email

Really annoying problem, Mail hangs when I try to create a new email or reply to a email.
I know it used to take about 10 seconds before but now it just hangs.
I'm currently on 10.4.2 on my iMac G5.
Anyone know of a fix?

I'm seeing this hang, too. takes ages and ages when replying or creating a new mail, and it's getting continually worse.

Tried rebuilding all my mailboxes - didn't help.

Stupid POS.

Just a note: After I rebuilt all my mailboxes, I've quit and restarted Mail, and I haven't seen the problem since.

Will continue observing.
