Lately, I've run into sites where I can't watch videos. Here is an example at Maxim's. Under the girl's pic, there is a "See Video" but Safari, FireFox, and OmniWeb (even with IE 6.0 site pref. set) won't let me watch the video.

Another example is Yahoo! Music which gives me this msg when I click on one of the videos: "We're sorry, but you must use Netscape 4.7x to use this application on a Macintosh." What the hell?? I don't wanna download Netscape!

Are these sites specifically designed so no matter what browser I use, I would still not be able to watch it on a Mac?

You didn't mention which OS-revision you're using, but I think it's a 10.4.2 thing. Since that version came out, I've had no audio through Safari, even though my audio is fine elsewhere... Including the standalone QuickTime app. If someone offers a solution here, I'll be ready to try it for my problem, too.

but why not? Netscape 4.7 is only 5 years old and you can run OS 9 to launch it.
I've had some trouble running qt video in 10.4.2 safari too, one site keeps crashing it. But then, my Mac is about 6 years old.
i look in your general direction

Sorry, I'm on 10.4.2 running QT 7. I don't have OS9 and don't want to have it. The thing is that I do get Wondows Media to appear within Safari, but the video is choppy and audio is in-and-out. Frustrating because I'm using the best OS in the world running the most advance browser, but still can't watch these videos.

I do understand that some of these things/websites were coded or written to satisfy IE since they still own roughly 85-90% of the browser market.

Anyone else have these problems and more importantly, is there something to allow us Mac users to watch these videos within the browser? I thought the plugins for RealPlayer and WMPlayer would let us do this, but it doesn't.
