iPhoto is a nice program to browse through you pictures and such but i have some issues with it. I hate how it organizes your photos into dates. is there anyway you can have your pictures in your own folders and just have them listed in iphoto instead of having them have to be organized iphoto's way. it would make it easier for me to automate my picture names because on my pc i had different folders for different pics, and i wanted to automate names and numbers and such. but, they were put into different folders because they were from different dates. and now whenever i want to find a picture i have to find it in iPhoto, get info, then spotlight the name. which brings me to my next gripe with iphoto. i hate how you cant go directly to the file in finder from iphoto. either that, or i haven't stumbled across how to do it yet.

anyways, just wondering if there is any way to remedy those problems i have, or if there are alternative programs i can use instead of iphoto

Use Smart folders. You still have to use iPhoto but very easy to customize.

You don't have to Spotlight for the name.
If you want a copy, just drag the image (or images) it out of iPhoto on to the desktop, or on to the disk etc.
Opening the original image in another app is a bit more convoluted, as you have to drag and drop the image from iPhoto on to the Icon of the editing app. I don't have much problem as Photoshop sits in my dock so dragging the image from the iPhoto Window to the PhotoShop Icon in the Dock is easy.

is there an easier way to do smart folders, like from an album or something instead of finder. since like all of my picture files are named like "IMG_xxxx.jpg" where xxxx are 4 numbers, it's kinda hard to find the correct files to make into a smart folder unless i go and see which files belong in each folder.

You can do a smart folder on any data, time, name, comments, etc.

uh, ok.

iPhoto, free (with your PB) or minimal cost
iViewMedia Pro, $200.

Did you just decide to use Serial Box too?

I mean, don't get me wrong, IVMP is a great app adn there are those who need it, I am just not so sure you can just not put any time into IP (with iPhoto Buddy perhaps) an djust dro 200 on a shoe box app.

I answered your other post on this, but just in case you missed it:

"Create a playlist in iTunes then select that playlist in iPhoto - it will then play all the music in the playlist assuming the slideshow is long enough.

A bit clunky and something that could be improved upon in a future version of iPhoto, for sure."
