I'm trying to use GarageBand to record directly from my Acoustic/Electric guitar. I have the Mac Mini, using the Griffin iMic as the input for the Guitar. In system preferences I'm able to adjust the input volume to whatever I want. However, when I add a new "real instrument" track, the input volume slider in GarageBand is greyed out and pinned to the left, so the input volume ends up being very low.

Anyone have any clues why?

Make sure you don't have volume automation enabled on the track.
Click the down-arrow button and take a look to see if it's enabled on that track.
