I was just wondering if all of these filters require a Core Image card. They seem to work fine on my Radeon 9550 iBook, but I'll have to check my GeForce 2 MX Cube. However, that's still a G4, so Altivec fallback still would likely work (albeit more slowly).

Anyone try this app with a G3? It says a G3 is all that is needed.

As for Stone Design's iMaginator it says it has Altivec fallback too, but doesn't mention a G3. Also, their demo version is very wonky...

I found LiveQuartz to be very clunky.

What's up with iMaginator exactly? (I know the developer) I have the full version so I can't corroborate what you are saying

What's up with the one-window brushed-metal fetish that LiveQuartz and iMaginator devs have. As much as I like the two apps, the interface is very unappealing. Why can't someone do something clean like the FunHouse dev example (or whatever it's called)...with document windows and tool palettes?

iMaginator 1.1 has a pref for Aqua

I quite like iMaginator's all in one approach with draggable panels for each effect.

Too bad they try and use CoreImage as a feature to support their app instead of using it as something to build on and integrate into a larger concept. I'll stick to Photoshop.

Have you thought that to build a house you need to start with a foundation?

Yeah, but it's free. Hopefully he keeps updating it.

When it loads up it just cycles through the various features in demo mode. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I couldn't figure out how to shut this demo off and test the features myself.

CoreImage doesn't require any specific GPU -- it will work on an old G3 with an old graphics card.

But it'll be slow as molasses in January inside the arctic circle. Apple's CI Fun House takes something around 30 seconds to render an effect on a 1024x768 image on my old 400MHz Pismo.

Eug, you're an idiot

First close the demo window, File->New and start playing It starts up with the Tiger pic each time so you can start playing off the bat, but you can easily drag on a different one, or set a different default one.

Cool. Downloading Xcode 2.1 now...

P.S. I know CI doesn't require a specific CPU/GPU, but Apple does limit CI functionality in certain apps on old hardware as you know.

LiveQuartz is a good start.

Palettes instead of one-window UI would be better for this type of app though.
