Are these meant to be burnt onto a CD? If so, what software do I need to do this, or does the normal apple burning software do it for me?

.cdr is the file extension for the CD/DVD Master format disk image. You can double-click it to mount it (if it doesn't, Get Info and make sure the default application in Open With is set to DiskImageMounter). You can also burn it to a CD with Disk Utility.

You will become more familiar with .cdr files when the version of BootCD for Tiger comes out.

Yeah I wanted to ask you, why do you use .cdr there instead of .dmg or whatever?

Three reasons, none of which are really scientific, but oh well:

1. It just seems to make sense to use the format that's designed for CD images, the CD/DVD Master format.

2. For some reason, I've had a bunch of people with images that just wouldn't boot and then they worked after they converted the image to CD/DVD Master with Disk Utility. I have no idea why. Also, I seem to have noticed fewer of these types of reports after doing the switch (although it could be placebo effect).

3. This cuts down on people burning the .dmg file that BootCD came on and then wondering why it didn't boot. You might not believe it, but I really did get this kind of problem report a bunch of times.
