Can it replace MS Office? Yes and no. It really depends on what you need it for and how badly you need compatibility with other Office users. The compatibility of NOJ/OOo with MS Office formats is good but not perfect. In terms of features, it is on a par with Office 98, IMO, so if you find you don't need or want all the new things offered in the latest versions of MS Office, then it will be fine for you.
In some respects it is actually superior to MS Office, such as its support for far more international languages, better support for Right-To-Left text input (so e.g. Arabic support is better) and a much better "Styles" function (though not as good as Pages).
