Hi, I'm running low on HD memory space on my start up volume. I have an addition slave HD with more capacity (in my G4 running OS X 10.3.9).
Is it possible to move my applications to the slave drive without causing probs? Do I copy the apps folder and delete the old one or just empty it?
Is it possible to move my microsoft user data folder with all my database stuff in for entourage also??? How should I do that without disrupting the link between the application and the database? My database is taking up quite alot of GB so that would free up loads of space to make my start up volume run better.
Cheers

Moving applications isn't going to save that much space. Have you tried the normal suspects, language packs, printer stuff, etc?
If you have your backup drive cloned and bootable, you can store items there and run them off the external.
Oh, and remove applications you don't need or use. iDVD and GarageBand are particularly large with the loops/themes.

You should not move any of Apple's applications. Apple's installers do ignore this and when you do updates you will get non-functional stuff in the old place. Don't move any of Apple's applications.
Any third-party application you can move wherever you want. This won't cause you any problems, but if the applications offer a service in the Services menu, that won't work any more.

Moving applications, while not impossible, is generally not the best idea. For that matter, it's usually not the most practical. Although applications can take up a lot of space, media files -particularly video, audio, and images, in that order- often take up far more. You will probably get better results by moving these, rather than your apps.
Have you tried OmniDiskSweeper? There is a free trial version; it doesn't delete folders, but that's easy enough to do by hand once you know what's taking up so much space.

I havent got any other stuff on my start up disk apart from my system, (and classic), applications and my microsoft user data. So I guess I'm not gonna be able to streamline that.
Can anyone tell me if I can move my Microsoft data without disruping the conection between the application and the database?????
