Why should I pay $59.95 for Cinematize when QuickTime Pro costs only $29?

We want to convert DVD vob files to a format which can be imported into iMovie and edited.
After which we want to produce a TV DVD.

You wouldn't be able to do that with QTPro, but you can with MPEG StreamClip, which is free (but requires the Apple MPEG 2 Decoder to read MPEG 2 files, which is what nearly all DVDs are). Also, unless you're adding effects like transitions and titles, you don't want to convert from MPEG to DV and back (in other words, don't use any iApps). Export your edited movie from MPEG StreamClip as MPEG and use something like Toast or Sizzle to remultiplex a DVD without re-encoding.

Where can I find the Apple MPEG 2 Decoder and some quick start info?

How does DIVA fit into the scheme?

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
Just install it and then open MPEG StreamClip

DiVA is used to convert MPEG video to QuickTime video. You would be a fool to convert MPEG video to QuickTime just to convert it back to MPEG for a DVD.

From the readme first file:

"The new version 5.2.x of DivX has the MP2 decoder but not the DivX codec; the older version 5.1.1 has the DivX codec but not the MP2 decoder. "

I want to install only version 5.2.x.

Does the above mean hat I do not need anything from:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/ ?

Where do I find DivX codex?

MP2 is not MPEG-2, it's MPEG-1-layer-2 (the audio format used by MPEG-1). Ignore it (it will be taken care of for you).

Do I understand this correctly?

The prequisites for MPEG-2 are:

a. At least OSX 10.3.9
b. Download OT 7.
c. Buy a license for OT Pro.
d. Buy MPEG-2 license

Where do I download MPEG-2? Is in the QT 7 Package?

Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about. When I go through the motions it takes me to the Apple store with the MPEG-2 codec in my basket. Is that what you're doing?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to buy QT Pro to use the MPEG-2 codec with MPEG StreamClip.

It may or may not be in QTPro waiting to be activated. But I would expect it to be delivered by email once you buy a license.

MPEG-2 Playback is in the AppleStore basket.

Is MPEG-2 codec delivered after I purchase MPEG-2 Playback ?

I don't see any possibility to purchase MPEG-2 codec.

they're the same thing. It's not really a codec because it doesn't encode, but it's easier to call it that so everyone does.
