First off, I am sorry for posting this in the lounge however this doesn't really fit in any other category, and also I need a solution by tomorrow morning!
I had a pages document, a long paper due tomorrow that has taken a few days of constant work to write. Long story short, I mixed up it's title with another document and dragged the paper to the trash and erased it. Is there anyway to get this document back? Please help you'll be saving my life if you do!

Not unless you pay a data recovery company hundreds, or thousands, of dollars.
And, don't do any writting to your disk until you get your file back, or you could write over it, and then you'd be really screwed.

Yeah, I've seen something like that and I guess if I'm forced to use it I will, but I'm really not trying to spend $90 to get a paper back. If there are any free programs, or if anyone knows if pages might make a back up of a document I would be greatly appreciative. I think I'd rather pull an all nighter and produce a slightly inferior paper than shell out the 90 bucks for the original. Thanks again though.

I'd just start typing again.
The time and effort spent trying to find the file isn't worth it. OS X ends up writing over erased sectors reasonably quickly, and you may spend the next 3-4 hours investigating and trying free fixes.

I have no idea... it's mostly hardware I believe.... they take your hard drive out and somehow copy it to another source.
The data recovery services are for hardcore damage though... like your computer being in a house fire, and stuff like that.
What is this "pages" program? MS Word and Apple's AppleWork both make backup files, right? I don't use either regularly, so I don't know the exact details, or even where the backup is made, but I do know they have the ability.

I know DriveSavers mostly uses utilities that they custom created.

LOL, doh, I didn't even know that Apple had a new word processor! As you can probably tell, I'm still running 10.3 and iLife 04.

Hmm... a thread about data recovery software. It sure would be nice if we had a software forum.

I remember back when you could use Norton Utilities very easily for this type of thing. I haven't tried it in many years, so I don't know if that is an option.

Honesty the best thing to do is place the entire computer in the freezer to preserve the existing data. It is best to place the whole computer in the freezer and not just the hard drive as some data leakage can occur.
Then call 911. They will walk you through the rest.

I didn't ask for a software in my original post. I asked if there was a way to recover recently deleted files from the computer so that could have involved the OS, Pages, or any other apps. So with that in mind and the fact that I needed an answer ASAP the lounge was a good place to put it.

Yeah, it would be a shame if an actual discussion about computer issues not relating to the OS, a specific computer model or software took precedence in the MacNN Lounge over such important topics as "J Lo's ass still biggy" and "The stupid hurricane weatherman thread".

But, the answer to the original question has been given so just leave this thread alone and let it die.
