Hi all,

I've been trying to backup my entourage files:
Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Database Cache
Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Database
Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Mailing Lists
Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Rules
Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office X Identities/Main Identity/Signatures

by zipping them up. Unfortunately when I try to unzip them, those files lose their type association. Those files become basic documents that have no association to entourage. Since entourage doesn't recognize them, I can't restore my email files from them.
Is there any program that saves the type association related to these entourage files?

Thanks for any help you can provide it. I really really REALLY appreciate it!

you could try a compressed disk image created from the 'main identity' folder.
Using disk utility, you can create disk images from folders.

Your idea worked! It did preserve the file type association.

I have one more question. Do you know if there's any way to automate that? My goal is to automate the zipping process. Thanks, again for you help!

if you have Tiger (10.4), you should be able to create an Automater task to take care of this.
If you don't have Tiger, you should look at applescript.

I'm using 10.3 right now, but yeah I'm actually thinking about upgrading to 10.4. I'll have to definite check that out. Thanks for the valuable information!
