Hello everyone,

I have about 5 different identities in Entourage which I use to keep my various email account neat and clean. I usually have Microsoft Word and Excel running all the time and would like to have Entourage running all the time as well without having to quit and relaunch every time that I need to check email from different identities.

Here is the problem, if I am working within a particular "identity" and working on a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet, and then decided to check email on a different "identity" within entourage, Entourage forces me to quit Word as well as Excel or order to switch identities.

I am sure some of you are thinking that why in the hell would I need 5 identitities to keep my email organized since each identity allows one to create multiple email accounts. Well the issue is, all these emails go into the same database and I would like to keep the size of this database pretty small to avoid file corruption problems. Each of my identities have 600mb-900mb worth of data and consolidating these files into one massive file would definitely expose the file to data corruption.

Having to quit all Office 2004 applications to switch identities is starting to become a major annoyance. I realize there is an enhanced feature within Office 2004 with integrates the Project Manager with MSN Messenger and all other Office 2004 applications for better collaboration and such, but I am hoping there is a workaround to this where I wouldn't have to exit out of all my Office applications just to be able to check my email on a different Identity.

I am hoping that someone on here will have some suggestions or advice for me to accomplish this.

Ken.

you could simply test, rebuild, and compact the database on a regular basis by holding the option key at entourage startup. Also automate backups daily or more often. That seems far simpler than managing all these identities.

I got this off the web:
Entourage 2004 has a database size limit of 16 exabytes (equal to approximately 16 billion GB). The database does have a limit on the number of database objects, that being 2 million. However, some items count as multiple database objects; for example, all messages count as two database objects. Unfortunately, there is no way to ascertain how many database objects there are at any given time since some objects do not correspond to a visible record. Regardless, if you do near the database size limit, Entourage will warn you.

Entourage X has a database size limit of 4 GB. The original release (10.0.0), like Entourage 2001, had a limit of only 2 GB.

Entourage 2001 has a database size limit of 2 GB.

Also from there
In Entourage 2004, there is an option to have Entourage warn you when database corruption is detected, rather than waiting to see symptoms arise. To enable this feature, you must launch the Microsoft Database Utility.
1. Launch Entourage, holding down the “Option” key. Or, launch the Database Utility separately; it is located in /Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Office/.
2. If you are prompted, allow the Database Utility to quit open Office applications.
3. Once the Database Utility is open, select your identity from the list at the top.
4. Click the “Set Database Preferences" button, and click "Continue."
5. Check the option to "Perform database integrity check in background," and click "Save."
