Entourage (v.X 10.1.6) has started has started crashing on launch. I have tried deleting prefs and cache but to no effect. The icon bounces, the window with the entourage logo appears, then the main window appears and immediately crashes. Looking at the crash log, the thread that seems to be causing the trouble (though I'm not certain I know how to read it properly) seems to have a lot to do with things like 'coreaudio' and 'soundmanager' so could those somehow be to blame. Anyway, I'm now unable to get at my saved e-mails (several hundred MB) so I would be really grateful for any help or suggestions.
thanks in advance,
Tam

while opening entourage, hold down the option key. Rebuild your database.

Thanks for the suggestion, tried a basic rebuild. I get the following error message:
Compacting failed
An I/O error occured
I am going to try an advanced rebuild.
regards,
Tam

Just tried an advanced rebuild. This seemed to work, but entourage still keeps crashing on launch.

i had the same problem, the only way i got mine to work was to use Entourage 2004 and then import data from an older version.
never found out the true cause of the problem but is your database over 2Gb in size? because Entourage X can handle a database larger than that.
Entourage 2004 i think goes up to 4Gb - But it's wise to keep it trimmed well below that margin by archiving old emails and compacting often.

Entourage 2004 goes well above that limit. Basically so large you don't have to worry about it.
