I like Grab.app as a basic screen capture utility. But, as a refugee from Windows, I'm looking for something on the Mac side to stand in for SnagIt.
There are two major needs I have that neither Grab nor Snapz (a Mac shareware utility by Ambosia software) really address:
1) I need to add graphics (e.g. arrows, pointers, call-out boxes, etc.) and text (ala text boxes) to the screen captures. Snag-it had a nifty toolbox that permitted me to do that.
2) I need to capture text ... where the "highlight and copy" function doesn't really work. Snag-it had a mode where it would take the screen capture as a jpg file or translate it to a text file.
Any suggestions? I used this application on Windows when preparing tutorials and it was invaluable. With the start of school and training programs, I'm hoping there's something out there. If need be I can paste the picture into Word and add the graphics/text but it's kludgier than the one-stop capability of Snag-it.
