I really like the new look of iTunes 5. The darkness of the top and bottom bars looks just right to me. I prefer the Plastic over the brushed metal.

While I like Tiger Mail better than the previous version, I have always felt the gray bar at the top is seriously washed out. Most of this seems due to the fact that Mail uses the blue buttons.

Just for fun, could one of you photoshop wizards fix mail so that it has the top and bottom gray bar matching iTunes 5? Then make white buttons and put the symbols for return, forward, etc inside the buttons and black in color? This would make the buttons resemble iTunes and Safari.

I think the end result will make Mail look fantastic. I would like to see Apple go in this direction. I don't mind the experimentation that they have been doing but it seems that they are starting to get really close. At least, that is my opinion.

I'm not good at photoshop so I won't bother with a mockup, but is this what you meant by the buttons?

If so, there's an application called Mail Fixer that lets you change the buttons:

I actually like the look of Mail.app, it's just the toolbar icons that were horrible. I don't think Mail.app would look very good with the iTunes 5 color scheme.

Thanks Franz. That's what I meant by the buttons.

I think Mail would look great with the iTunes 5 color scheme. Hopefully somebody will give it the go.

I decided to see what Franz was talking about essentially saying lighter is better.

I downloaded Iridium and have been trying it out for the past day.

I must say I do really like it. Iridium itself does not change iTunes 5 but seems to change everything else to a much more uniform look. Most closely resembles Mail. (Iridium comes with another app that will change iTunes but I have not done that yet. I still like iTunes 5 looks.)

On my PB, Mail does not appear as washed out as it does on our iMac G5. I may give it a whirl on the iMac since it is easy to restore back to the original Tiger look.

What I have noticed now that I downloaded Iridium, is that I like the apps that don't have margins on the sides of the windows. iTunes, Safari and Mail look much better to me than iPhoto, Addressbook and iCal which do have margins. Maybe that is what Apple should really change.
