I just purchased a Region 2 DVD and I wanted to remove the region code so that I could play it on my regular DVD player. I have never had a problem backing up DVDs with MTR but this is the first time I've tried a Region 2 DVD. Essentially, MTR does the job but when I move the folder to Popcorn, it tells me that the folder is still encrypted. Are there encryptions that MTR cannot remove? Is there another encryption removing software for Mac OS X that I can try? I'm open to suggestions because otherwise, I've got five new DVDs that I can't use. Oh and I did use up one of my precious region switches on my computer thinking that might be the problem. I don't want to switch back to Region 1 until I've figured this out. Thanks!

Have you tried RegionX?
http://xvi.rpc1.org/region.html
Have you unlocked your drive firmware?
Both are required I think, cos if its encrypted in popcorn I think you need to play it in DVD player to get deCSS keys (someone else knows more I'm sure).

If you've done both and no luck, ask in the www.ripdifferent.com forums - the author lives there.

Apparently my drive is one of the newer ones and there is no way, as of yet, to unlock the firmware. Does this mean that I can't rip Region 2 DVDs? I've also noticed that the VOB won't play in VLC without creating all sorts of errors. This is what makes me think that it's a specific copyright to the DVD itself. The DVD by itself will play just fine in DVD Player, but MTR can't rip it.
