I was wondering if I have to buy a word processor for my new PB? Or if it came with one? If not I'll have to go buy MS office for mac... how much is that?

Appleworks comes with it along with textedit. I'd suggest buying iWork which includes "Pages" which is a great page layout and word processor with templates, as well as, "Keynote" which is a great presentation package. Look it up. $79

Are you a student? Students get edu versions of Office.
What are going to do with a word processing app? We're good but don't read minds.

Addition: If you are a student you get "Microsoft Office" for a good price, and if you order iWork online it's also at a student discount, but I can't remember what it is. I think it's $49, and Office is $149
There are also a number of other options depending on your specific needs or abilities.
Go to versiontracker.com and type in: word processor; or word processing; or office; or neooffice for starters. Many independent software developers are working hard to make some nice products that fit different needs and desires for free or very affordable prices. It's all about getting the job done in the best way for you.

What is it that you need in a word processor? Do you need footnotes or endnotes? Automatic tables of contents or indexing?
Honest question. Depending on your needs, TextEdit might be enough; it reads Word documents and has a surprising amount of control over layout, headers and footers, and even tables. If you need something more robust, though, you might check out AbiWord or Nisus Writer Express. Pages has a good reputation as well, though it takes some getting used to.
You can get Office if you really need it, but it costs about the same as it does on Windows. If you don't strictly need Office, then there are cheaper options.

FYI: Pages won't do endnotes.

Try not to get word initially, especially if you're going to be writing complicated documents. Yet again I have run into a terminal bug in Word 2004. Try importing styles from other documents. Guaranteed it will crash at least 8 or 9 times rendering process useless. But still, that why computing is so much fun...

Don't forget Papyrus, a very fast and very stable DTP/WP hybrid.
