Hello. I need to not only open an .exe file but upload it to a server to be used. How do I do that. My stuffit expander could not open it. Please advise. thank you.

.EXE 'files' are Windows applications, and can't really be 'opened' on the Mac. You could instal a WIndows emulator like VirtualPC and run it there, but that seams like overkill in this situation.
To upload it to a 'server' I would have thought a regular FTP prod would have done?

Of course, some .EXE files are self-expanding compressed files which can be 'expanded' with Stuffit Expander. The resulting file might well be Mac-readable.

The OP said that stuffit expander couldn't read it,

When those cases arise, then your only option (well two options) are VPC or a peecee.

Or VLC, although that would also require a PC in the equation.

Many Windows archiving and compression programs (like WinZip) allow you to create self-extracting archives, which will have an ".exe" extension. Stuffit just does not even try to open these, and that's fine. You can upload the .exe with any FTP program you choose to use, and it should be fine.

But... How sure are you that this file is both legitimate and free from being altered since it was compressed? It would be very bad to be the one who uploaded an infected file. It would be worth your while to find someone with a PC AND really good antivirus software who would open the archive and examine it for you to make sure it's ok.

Stuffit will open .EXE files which are self-expanding compressed archives.

also try manually changing the extension to .zip and try again.

Stuffit will open most self extracting .exe files. I've seen a few made from rather bizarre programs (one that did RAR archives, but wasn't WinRAR, produced output files that were horrible-too big, not well structured, and not recognized by any other program) that nothing would open.

I do think it's a red flag if this file is supposed to be a self extracting archive that Stuffit won't open it.

I signed up for a "plugin" site which offers a file that is an .exe file. I do not believe, based on the reputable site that I got it from) that it is infected ( although you do have a point). I just couldn't imagine that the greatest machine on the face of this earth (my MAC) could not deal with an .exe file. So... what that makes me wonder is... Did the PC "lick" the mac on this one?

How do other mac users deal with the .exe.

Looking at the document, it is completely white, as in not having anything on it ...When it does get opened, it looks like gobbly gook....?

Anyhow, I guess I'll find a PC user to do for me what I wish my MAC ( the greatest machine in the word in my book!) can't do??? I'm baffled by this one Steve Jobs!

Are you a troll?

.exe files are Windows executables and Macs don't execute Windows executables just like Windows PCs (the second greatest machines in the world) don't run Mac executables.
