Hi,
I keep my Fonts in a compressed disk image for easy backup. After learning that FontBook supported Font Libraries in addition to Font Collections I mounted my Fonts image and dragged it into the FontBook library list. It worked great. It even mounted the disk image later when needed.

The problem came after a restart. I had turned off the my new Font Library, but I discovered that after I restarted FontBook no longer recognized the off status of the library and simply loaded them all. It seems confused .... it's labeled as off, but when you highlight the library th fonts inside are not greyed out.

I thought it might be the whole disk image thing so I created a project folder on my drive and dumped some fonts in there. The same thing happens ... FontBook seems to work fine until you either log-out or restart. it then gets confused about the status of the libraries as well as collections created from the libraries.

Am I missing a setting here? This would be awesome if it worked.

Anyone use the FREE app FontExplorer X? I'm not interested in Suitcase or Font Reserve.

You can keep a copy of your fonts backed up but you shouldn't be putting the actual ones in compressed disk images.

So, your saying I shouldn't have the system load them from a disk image, but it's O.K. to back them up in a disk image.

I've been using FontExplorer X to manage about 3k of fonts for a couple of weeks now. Unless Apple _really_ overhauls FontBook, I don't think I'll ever open it again! If you haven't already tried it - go install Font Explorer X - it is how font management on the Mac should have been since day one of OS X.
