Toast and .mac Backup will both span backups across multiple DVDs.

I also have a large .dmg file that I'd like to burn, but don't have a dual-layer drive. Do I just drag the file into Toast to make a data-DVD and it will know to split it up across 2 DVDs?

You can use hdiutil in the Terminal to segment disk images. There is probably a GUI app that also does this too. Search VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Is something like this what you're talking about: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16900

Do I even need something like this or will Toast split it up for me?

Not sure if that will do what you're asking, but you could always try it out with a smaller image (say 1 GB) and see if it will burn across 2 CDs. My guess is that if it does, you'll be able to burn the 2 DVDs without worry.

I dragged the file into Toast to make a Data DVD. Inserted my DVD. Clicked burn. Error message appeared saying there was not enough space on the disk.

So...what do I do? Is there a certain setting I should turn on/off? According to a post above, Toast should be able to do this, so any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Are you running Toast 7 ? If so, you must have something like this at the left margin of the Toast window (this once I dragged a huge folder into Toast to burn, here you can see the amount of CDs, DVDs and dual layer DVD I would need)

I think so, I can not remember Toast 6 having that feature… but check this app, could be helpful… it is free and only about 200 KB…
