I've been using Dragthing, and I really like it, but I'm having one, weird, frustrating problem. Any folders that I've dragged in to the drawers won't open as folders. Instead, DVD player opens. This is really kind of puzzling. Should I delete/reinstall the program? Or just contact the developer?

I haven't used Drag Thing in awhile, but off hand, I thnk you should let the developer know first just so they are aware of how their software is actign up, give it a day for a reply, and then just reinstall the program.

Huh, it's possible that it could be DragThing's problem, but it's also possible that DragThing could be using the standard LaunchServices API to launch the folders. If this is the case, clearing out the LaunchServices cache may work. I'd only do this as a last resort, though, since it will clear out your default applications in your "Open With" settings. Therefore, the first thing I'd try would probably be trashing preferences related to DragThing.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

i tried reinstalling the program, which killed any preferences i had. will clearing the launch services cache mess up opening already dedicated files, like .docs or .key or .pages? and if not, how do i clear the cache?

Reinstalling might not have got all the prefs. Go to your home folder -> Library -> Preferences and delete everything related to DragThing. That should take care of DT's preferences.

Clearing the LaunchServices cache will reset all your default applications, so I'd try that after you've exhausted other options. For something like .pages, it wouldn't matter, since Pages is probably the only app that will open those anyway, but for something like .doc, it might revert to opening with TextEdit if you've changed it to MS Word, for example.

when i reinstalled, i deleted urrrrvrything. i contacted the developer, and if he can't come up with anything, i'll have to try clearing the launch services cache. i really, really want this program to work.
