I have all my mp3s and aac files on an external 80 gig usb 2.0 drive, when I unplug the drive from my ibook and open itunes it always sets my itunes folder back to my internal hd on the ibook and everytime i reconnect i have to go into the advanced tab and change it and then it takes a couple minutes to update the library. Is there anyway to prevent this? Or anything else I can do to prevent this.

hmm, going with macfantn's question.... I'm getting nearer to caving and buying a 60 gig iPod. I want to just shift my iTunes library to the iPod and be done with it. As is I barely have enough space on the iBook, and when its being used at home, the iPod would always be plugged in. When the iPod isn't plugged in, I wouldn't have iTunes running anyway. is that doable (that as in put my music on the iPod, and the iPod be the source for the iTunes library?)

You don't need to set the iPod as the source for your library as the iPod will pop-up in the source list on the left side of the iTunes window every time you plug it in.
You will have to however turn off automatic syncing or iTunes will erase your iPod everytime you plug it in.
I have my 20gigabyte iPod nearly full and only a few hundred megabytes of songs on my iBook HD.

ShotGunEd >> cool, thanks. Now I just have to convince the wife that a 60 gig iPod is a better option than the (in her words) "cute little" iPod Nano.

hey guys,
i am having alot of trouble with itunes. i downloaded the newest version on my home computer and got my account set up and everything. then i purchased a song but that when the problems started. itunes kept saying accessing music store then it would go to downloading then it would go back again ans so on and so on. i left it on all night long and the download never moved. then i logged onto my itunes account at school on their high speed system and the song downloaded super fast but i put it as a file on a cd because i didnt have my ipod with me and took it home. when i got home i played the song and it sounded very scratched up even though it was brand new. i cant find an answer anywhere and it is frustraqting the hell out of me.
anything would be nice
thanks
