A PC using friend gave me a disc with a movie on it but when I put it in my mac the format is something I haven't come across before. file.xVid.cd1.r00 and then file.xVid.cd1.r01 and so on.
What format is this and how do I go about playing this?
Thanks in advance!

Do a search for rar. It's not a file format as such, it splits a big file into many small pieces.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

unrarx works well. double click the .r00 or .rar file and it will go off and then decompress the actual file, then you're going to need vlc to watch the movie

.rar is similar to a zip file. a zip file compresses a file into one compressed file. RAR takes a big file and breaks it into smaller pieces. Try what mdc suggested (unrarx).
