I was THRILLED that Apple finally fixed iChat with the most recent Tiger update. (Initially, iChat 3 was a nightmare!) But all has been well for the past 6 weeks or so, then all of a sudden, my wife and I started being unable to video chat with our daughter who is away at college. We cannot connect and keep getting the error message that we failed to respond. Bandwidth speeds are not the problem. Anybody else having problems? Any suggestions on what to look for?

So you have successfully been able to video chat with your daughter at college in the past, correct? Does this happen with all video chats you initiate?

Yes, my daughter went back to school in August and we have been able to video chat. In fact, iChat (since the 3.0.1 release) has been working flawlessly. But for some reason, for the past several days neither of us have been able to connect (video). I've checked the bandwidth, I've checked the connection doctor. I don't know what else to check????

Has anything changed on her end? A new router? A switch from a wired to wireless network or something. If you can get a video chat working with someone else (feel free to IM me) that will help us narrow down the issue.

Exactly the same problem here, worked fine Panther.

No video or audio.

There has been one change. I upgraded the firmware on my DLink router. Could that have caused a problem?

Yes, that appears to be the problem. I took the router out and connected my computer directly to my cable modem and PRESTO!, I could connect immediately and video chat. So now what? I've looked at this article:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/we...2d3fe.68a11247

But all it does is make my head spin. I don't understand enough about how ports work. I can navigate to the place in my system preferences where I manually enter the ports that need to be opened, but I'm not sure which ones to try. Any suggestions?

My guess is that the ports are open on your firewall but may need to be forwarded on the router. I have port 5298 open for ichat by the way.
