www.apple.com/itunes

Jump to it.

Interestingly it claims to require Quicktime 7.0.3 for video playback. Quicktime 7.0.3 does not yet exist.

they add a 'Video' section on the left and call it a full upgrade.
ok then.
nothing broken thus far. works exactly like 5.

oh, and they just released QT 7.0.3. about 20 minutes ago. playing back the videos in the music store won't work without it. and my quicktime updater isn't working. but the apple website offers the newest version.

Hmmm...I'm playing videos in the music store with no QT 7.0.3, even though I did get the warning that I couldn't.

I don't get it… where are the videos for sale?

I have iT6 and QT 7.0.3 but when I go to the Music Store I can't seem to find anything new.

When I click the spiffy new Bono banner all I get is the Browse option.

Anyone?

My dealings with the ADC suggest they definitely know about it; whether they are working on it is another matter.

isn't it funny how they say the singles of the week are free yet it still costs 99 cents? i don't think they really needed more money, did they?
plus
the apple startpage still hasn't been updated to show the new iMac, Mac minis, iPods, and iTunes 6 (iTunes 5 still shows up)

It seems screwed up big time...

For starters, if you go to an artist's page, you cannot see what videos they have...

I had go to the music videos section (via the graphic on the top left of the page) and start clicking categories to find anything. I could not get to the video though any other method...

If you click Music Videos in the left hand category side it brings you to an iTunes Videos section which has videos you cannot buy.

Clicking teh "TV Shows" link (which I can only find on the music store page, not any other page) brings me to the browse option, in which I cannot find any videos of any kind what so ever...

In the windows version if I click the music videos option in the upper left on the ITMS main page, it takes me into browse mode instead of the "Music Videos" section (in which I cannot find any kind of videos what so ever)...

Everything seems very screwed up as of now...

Oh, and I just realized I cannot had albums to my cart, as I'm getting a 502 error every time I try...

I'd give them a little time to update the store before, they just announced the updates.

You're probably using the Music Videos link which has been the same before iTunes 6

It's just you.

I am guessing the "TV Shows" link going to "Browse" is something they'll fix in the next little while. Might have something to do with the change over. Who knows.

I wanted to download the Fray's free song, but I'll wait until they mark it as free.

Other interesting additions: singles by Rock Star: INXS's Joris and Marty. My wife will rejoice.

And has anyone else tried the "Just For You" beta? Seems to me they could make it a LOT smarter. So far, it's recommended about 10 things that I have in my iTunes library. I could understand it a bit if it was just albums I'd ripped from CD, but it has tried to get me to buy stuff I already bought on iTunes!

I think you guys are way too eager beaver. Give them a couple of days to sort out the logistics. All these issues like "I click on this but I can't see that" will be fixed and gone. Chill.

Still makes a terrible impression.

Grand media event to announce a feature that apparently doesn't work. Nice work, guys.

Yeah but let's face it, MacNN can't hack running the forums in one of these conferences for people posting text. Apple has to keep the music store running while upgrading it to sell TV shows, all while millions of people worldwide are trying to use the service. They probably deserve just a liiiiittle bit of slack, no?

What was the point of iTunes 5 if 6 came out a month later?

Now iTunes can be resized to fill the whole screen. The lack of this ability has always frustrated me. In previous versions, iTunes would always leave a small gap on the sides and bottom no matter how far I tried to stretch it!

I love how the new Videos collection automatically picks a frame to display so you can visually browse through your collection. You can change the poster frame if you'd like too. The reflection in the black background is a nice touch too. The only thing is that all of my existing music videos that I downloaded from the ITMS are were assigned "Movie" as a Video Kind and the drop-down is disabled so I can't change it "Music Video". But the movie trailers that I manually imported today can be set to either. Not sure why the purchased videos have an incorrect setting that can't be changed.

Indeed. While in the grand scheme of things version numbers are somewhat arbitrary, it seems to me that given the history of iTunes versioning and the limited number of new features this would have been version 5.1 instead of a full number upgrade.

So how long until Apple renames the 'iTunes Music Store" into just the "iTunes Store"?

Well, they can rebrand the iTunes Music Store as iTunes Media Store, if only to keep the abbreviation.

iTunes 6 or iTunes 5.0.2? There's absolutely NOTHING new for international users. Well, apart from fixing the full-screen bug. Holy crappity crap Apple!

* yes, I'm also pissed they release a new iMac three days after I received mine, but that's just life.

On another note ... I think the new visual browser for videos is really slick. The black background with the reflection underneath is a really nice touch. I just wish they had implemented something similar for the main music library. It would be cool to be able to navigate in "album mode" visually. The search bar at the top along with the existing genre/artist/album browser could easily work with images of album artwork just as easily as it can a list of tracks.

Very true. They should implement Album Art viewer in the same way

How do the search bar differentiate between videos? All my 156 existing videos show up as videos only, not as music videos.

I second that YAY! I hated the shiny screen with a passion. Now I don't need the hacked iTunes.rsrc file I used to change it. But I'll keep it, in case the shine comes back.

Anyone know how to add .avi videos into iTunes? They play fine in Quicktime - I think they are xvid encoded.

Yeah... I can't understand how adding Podcasts, etc, only dictates a .1 increase, but suddenly we have a huge jump from iTunes 5 to iTunes 6! Seems to me like we could be sitting just as fine on iTunes 5.1!

Maybe just changing it from 5.0.1 to 6.0 makes the change sound more significant?

This is not even a .1 upgrade. It's seriously a .0.1 upgrade. Really, what is different except for the obvious Video-pane? iTunes Music Store upgrades have nothing to do with the app!

I think Apple is just eager to get to iTunes 9 so they can finally release iTunes X.

I did it by saving them as self-contained movies from QTPlayer, but apparently you can just change the extension to .mov.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean so I will tackle both angles ....

If you are referring to the Library search bar, then a video is a video is a video. That filter doesn't differentiate between types of videos.

If OTOH, you are referring to the Videos search bar, then if you Get Info on a video and go to the Options tab you will see Video Kind setting. The options are Movie, Music Video, TV Show, and I assume Podcast (though I haven't seen that one yet). The thing is, it seems like Music Video, and TV Show (and I imagine Podcast) are set automatically when you download content from the ITMS. The setting can't be changed either. However, for files that you import yourself only Movie and Music Video seem to be options. Not sure why you can't manually set TV Show or Podcast. On the first, since ITMS is the only legal source of downloadable TV content perhaps they don't want to make iTunes very accommodating to shows obtained via "other means". Perhaps Podcasts becomes available if you import an MP3 or AAC file. I would hope so since the ITMS isn't the only source for legal video Podcasts.

Thanks. I totally missed that option since it's not available when you select multiple files, the place where it would be most useful.

OK, so I went through all my 127 videos and sorted them into Film and Music Videos so the Video-option would recognize them as such. However when I start playing videos it plays exactly that video and then just stops. The repeat and shuffle buttons are greyed out. What is the point of this? I want to view all my music videos on repeat and shuffle, not one video at the time! Is this a bug or is it intentional. Happens both in thumbnail-view and in list-view.

Gah, back to smart playlists for me

Oh, and http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html is now for requesting songs in the iTMS store. Huh??

It says iTunes Feedback in the menu still.
