please someone help me out. i did a search and could not figure out how to solve my problem and it's driving me crazy!!!

here's my issue. i am importing a bunch of 'phil hendrie' talk show mp3 rips into itunes. after the import, i select all the tracks and start editing some tags and the first one is usually 'genre'. i would like to choose the 'talk show' tag for these mp3s, but stupid itunes keeps autofilling 'talk radio' (which was an old tag that i no longer even use) because it assumes 'talk radio' takes priority because the letter 'r' is before the letter 's'!

how do i get rid of old tags that are no longer even being used? i have all kinds in the genre menu because of all the imports from various places. thanks a lot!

You can just continue typing and overwrite what iTunes has suggested for genre.

This would have been better placed in the Applications Forum. For next time.

oops, yeah sorry i put it in the wrong section. i had a bunch of tabs opened up and i must have picked the wrong one. anyhow, i know i can continue typing to overwrite the suggestion, but i'm lazy sometimes and i'd rather have itunes do the job for me!

My experience is that custom genres show in the list until no songs use that genre. Built-in genres never go away. Custom genres disappear once they are no longer used by any song in your collection.

At least it works that way for me.

Ditto. Sort your list after genre and re-genre the offending tracks.

Sidenote: This extremely annyoing when using international versions of iTunes as you get a constant mix of localized and english tags.
