Actually iPhoto is not what I want and isn't really the right tool to solve the problem I'm looking to solve.
I'm aware that iphoto can do slideshows that I can navigate, but that requires me to launch that app and be engaged. What currently happens today is when our kitchen computer goes idle the screensaver kicks on displaying 5 years worth of digital photos of our family, friends, etc. We go about our daily lives being subjected to random photos. On occasion we see an old photo of one our children or a picture of a friend we haven't seen in a while. Before you know it the picture has switched to the next one in the cycle. So it's really convinent to be able just press the arrow key and go back a photo or two. If we wanted to cycle through a specific set of pictures then yes, Iphoto is the right tool. It's more of a convergence thing with having a computer in your kitchen. Our motivation isn't really all that relevant it's the fact that I'm going to lose critical (it's funny saying that) functionality that we have grown accustomed too switching from a PC to a Mac. Think of it as a digital picture frame when my computer goes idle.
