I tried, just for the fun of it really… to open a HD Apple trailer with QT 6.x, and as this computer has a by default spanish Mac OS system I got a kinda 'nonsense' text:

"No fue posible abrir el archivo "ice_age_2-tsr_480p.mov" porque se ha detectado una partícula de película pública."

With the Mac OS default language as english I got this message (which adds the 'bad' term):

"Couldn't open the file "ice_age_2-tsr_480p.mov" because a bad public movie atom was found in the movie."

I understand that QT 6 is not able to deal HD movies, and I have Tiger in another Mac to open the HD trailers, what I am asking is to know what does 'bad public movie atom' mean.

Excuse me if this sounds silly.

Thanks.

An Introduction to QuickTime - QuickTime Atom Containers

"QuickTime stores most of its data using a special memory structure called atoms. You can think of atoms as the basic data containers inside QuickTime. Movies and their tracks are organized as atoms."

So that would mean that the HD movie's atom contains data that is unrecognizable to QuickTime.
