as of now you have to click on that area to see the date, i.e. "Thursday, Sept. 23rd"

any setting that can make the date appear constantly?

thanks

Apple doesn't include this "feature" within OS X...however, download TimeStat v1.3 for free and give that a try. Works great!

Did you try logging out and logging back in, or rebooting?

Yes. Here's how I've set up the Formats pane of the International Preferences. When I hit "Ok" -- nothing.

Hmm.

Use the "Long" format instead. That's what I did and it worked after.

Messing round with that I seriously farked my menubar clock, the dropdown didn't work properly, the clock would remain 'selected' also the other items at that end of bar became dificult to select.
doing this also destroys the date/time fields shown in other apps like iPhoto.
