I'd like to give a friend all of the photos in my iPhoto library, but I don't want to give him the folder hierarchy. Is there a quick way to extract all of the images from the hierarchy and put them at the same level of one folder?

It won't be quick, but Share>Export...>File Format (select folder to have them duplicated into)

Can iPhoto stuff be copied into another version? If so, you could hook the two up with a Firewire cable and do it that way.

Use the Burn button to burn a DVD which keeps the structure in place, and will show up in their iPhoto's source list.

Select All -> Drag to the folder you want. Makes copies in that folder. That's what I'd do. Unless you have a huge library and not much disk space.
