When I learned about this 3rd party software called "Powerboost." http://www.ecamm.com/mac/powerboost/

I got so confused how it works... my question is why did Steve jobs said for those older G4 macs below 1 Ghz cannot participate 3 or 4 ways video conferencing....

in apple's site about iChat/iSight requirements, it says:

"For 4 person video conferencing=To participate: 1GHz G4, dual 800 MHz G4 or any G5"

But the "powerboost" software allows you to participate 4 person video conferncing... I had it tested on my wife's 700 mhz eMac and it WORKED! It now work with 4 person video conferencing without a problem!!!! What a miracle!?!?

Now, my question is that how is this possible? I mean, I knew this would work in a way behind the screen.. or is Steve doing this on purpose to force people buying more new macs above 1 Ghz??

.............

I don't know what PowerBoost is doing because I haven't tried it but the reason why 3-4-way chat requires a fast G4 or any G5 is because the computer has to handle 3 H.264 streams simultaneously.

I don't think many low-end G4s can manage that.

So my questions are, are the iChat A/V chats jerky with PowerBoost? How is the quality of the picture?

I should imagine it just fscks with the system requirements for iChat, and either fakes the speed of your computer, or removes the limitation from iChat's startup check.

It probably just means everything runs slow and jittery.

So, can anyone tell me how it runs? I have a 1.2 Ghz iBook and am considering purchasing it if the quality is good.
