used my computer to check my mail this morn...came back at lunch launched safari and boom it defaulted to the apple home page and i lost all my bookmarks in every folder?? it later came up with a message unable to store keychain or something ??? tried to find bookmarks in spotlight?? nothing ???? any answers

Did you lose preferences in any other application? If so, you might have accidentally renamed your home folder.

thats exactly what i did was rename that folder... can i get that stuff back?

You must not rename your home folder. Never. Also don't move it.

You probably now have a new home folder with your old name. Rename that to something else then rename your original home folder to its original name, log out and back in again.

If renaming your Home folder can wreak so much havoc one would think the OS would disallow it in the Finder. I suppose that would be too much like right though.

Not if you got all of your settings/files/personal belongings out of it.
