This might sound bizarre, but for some reason, my video files that end with .mpg will not play with sound in Quicktime. On top of that, the playback is kind of shoddy and jittery. Anyone know why? I can play .mp4, .avi, and .mov files just fine... with great sound and playback, just not .mpg!

Edit: Also, the files (.mpg) played just fine a day or two ago - so I'm guessing I accidently changed a setting of some sort without knowing it.

I just tried to use the "Reinstaller" found in Apple's support pages, which converted Quicktime back to version 7.0.1 (I had 7.0.3 installed)... no luck.

Anyone?

I just uninstalled/install 7.0.3 and the problem is still prevalent.

EDIT: I just installed VLC just to see what would happen. The MPEG-4 videos play fine with it. Why would they not work in Quicktime but in VLC?

Alright, I fixed it.. but I don't know how.

I was searching on the Apple forums and someone told another user to open up Garageband. I did, started a new project, played around for a bit.. then tried playing an MPEG-4 file again with Quicktime... it worked!

I don't know why, but hey - I'm satisfied. Mods, you can lock this now if you like.
