I just bought and installed VirtualPC, and it works better than I had expected in terms of speed (My hopes weren't high.).

That said, I'm wondering if additional RAM would speed up the performance? I'd be going from 1GB to 2. Would the additional RAM make a difference in the performance of OSX?

On a related note, I recognize that a faster HDD would certainly speed things up, but my PB is still under warranty. Another problem I have is that the HDD I purchased as an upgrade is bigger than the factory one, but not big enough for me to do a CCC clone over firewire. Any suggestions? I certainly don't want to have to install all this stuff again!

Thanks!

Woops!

PB G4 15" 1.5 GHz with 1GB RAM.

More RAM = Good Things. Adding RAM to your machine would provide the underpinnings of VPC to have elbow room while allowing you to dedicate the maximum RAM you can (I think it's 512MB) to the virtual machine.

Roger that. Thanks!

How would it affect the running of other Mac software while VPC wasn't running? I've been told both ends of the spectrum, from good speed increases to no change.

That's a good question, and I think it would depend on what programs you were running. OS X likes RAM, Tiger especially, but there may be a point of diminishing returns. 1GB is a good level, but I don't think 2 could hurt anything, and that much RAM would probably make memory-intensive programs (like Photoshop, for example) faster.
