Hi:
I posted this on the digital video audio forum but have not received a reply. So I post the message here as well, hopefully somebody can help me out.
I have recently done a clean install on OSX Tiger. (I have a G4 sawtooth 400 MHz upgraded to 1 GHz, running Panther before). I back up all my programs and files before erasing the drive.
After the installation, I copy the programs back. Final Cut Pro 3.0 stop working after that. It said on the screen that a required system ID file is missing or invalid, please reinstall using the original disc. I have final cut pro 1.2 (full version), and 3.0 upgrade. 1.2 (OS 9 version) is still installed on my OS9 drive. I inserted the original 3.0 upgrade install disc for OSX, it refused to install. I look at the read me file, and it tells me that I need to start the CLASSIC mode at least once before upgrading so the install program can find the original 1.2 version to upgrade. So I did that, the classic mode started fine. After that the 3.0 upgrade was installed successfully (according to the installer), but I was never asked to key in the administrator's password in the process. I then tried to start the program, the same error message occurred (a required system ID file is missing or invalid, please reinstall using the original disc). I removed the program, repair permissions, restarted the computer, repeated the installation process again, restarted the computer and then started the program. But I still got the same error message.
I then started the computer under OS9, my final cut pro 1 still runs without problems. I was able to upgrade it to FCP 3.0 OS9 version. And it runs fine as well under OS9. I then retart in OSX 10.4.3, and try to install the OSX version of FCP 3, but the exact same problem still occurs. Is it possible that FCP3 does not run under Tiger? I know I have no problem running it under Panther.
I still have both the original 1.2 and 3.0 upgrade discs. Any help is much appreciated.
