I am using the Microsoft Office X on an G4 (Mac OSX 10.3.9) powerstation, and I have a big problem:

In all the main Office apllications (Word, Excel), when I use them to open a document from the internet, the non-latin characters are not displayed, sometimes even figures.

Could you please tell me what can I do to fix this? I use also an iMac G5 with Microsoft Office 2004, same Mac OSX 10.3.9 and this one displays the non latin characters.

Sounds like it could be a corrupted or missing font. What happens if you select all in the affected document and switch to a different font?

Office 2004 has better font rendering and unicode support than Office v.X. More than likely you are hitting a limitation in Office v.X to do with the display of unicode characters. The only solution would be to upgrade to Office 2004 on the G4 or to try an alternative to Office such as NeoOffice (free) for those documents.

When he can't read the fonts, all the characters appear like underscores (like this "________________") and when I try to do what u say the underscores dissapear and the field practiccaly is empty. I I select the field it can see that it has characters in it and what font are those characters with, but it doesn't display anything.

It might be related to Unicode support, or lack thereof.

You can download a trial version of Office 2004 from www.microsoft.com/mac which is Microsoft's Mactopia web site. You could open the documents in the trial version to see if delivers the outcome you want.

Enjoy
