I have a short MPEG clip that I was given by a friend, and I can't get it to play in QuickTime (not Pro) or in Windows Media Player for Mac. The clip plays fine on any of the Windows computers around here in WMP, but QT tells me that the movie clip is not a file type that it understands. WMP for Mac tells me that it is an invalid file format. Anybody have any ideas. I am pretty new to Mac and have been bragging about it to all the guys, but this is killing me.

That doesn't sound like it would be MPEG. It must be mislabeled. Have you tried VLC? If that can't play it, I suspect it's either WMV10 inside or something really weird.

Well VLC did the trick. Thanks for the help. One question about VLC now though (never used it before). Whenever I launch it from the dock I disk image shows up on my desktop and I have drag it to the trash/eject when I am done using VLC. Is this normal or did I mess something up on the install?

To install the program, you drag it from the disk image into your Applications folder. If you just drag it from the disk image into the Dock, it'll use the copy inside the disk image, which is why the image mounts every time you run the program.

Once again Chuckit thanks for the help. Problem solved. Have no fear however, I'm sure I'll come up with more the more I use my PB.
