I originally posted this question in the wrong forum, so I'll try again. I want to let my son use my laptop for music and photos, but don't want him to have access to all my stuff. I set up an account for him, but can't figure out how to move pics, tunes from my iphoto, itunes to his. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to your user folder in Finder, and then go up one more level to the Users folder, you'll see a folder called Shared. Any files you put in there can be shared by all users; just drag all the songs and iPhoto photos there you'd like him to have.
Another possibility is to get an external Firewire drive. Files on the external drive should be available to all users by default. I believe it's even possible to keep your iPhoto library there if you want to share it.

Also every user has a folder called "Public" where you can put files for others to read and inside the Public folder is a "Drop Box" where others can drop files for you.

True, but the Public folder is more for sharing over networks, rather than between users on the same machine.

Says who?
When I want to pass a file to another user (without sharing with all others by putting it in /Users/Shared) I use that user's drop box. There is nothing wrong with that.

Well, (1) ~/Public is the default folder when you connect to another machine as a guest, and (2) ~/Shared lets all users of a machine read and write the same files (as opposed to reading from /Public and writing to /Drop Box).
But there's certainly nothing wrong with using the Public folder that way if you want to.
