When I play a video in Windows Media Player, VLC, and most of the time in Quicktime, and click on the bar to move to a different part of the movie, it seems to stall for a few seconds before continuing in the new spot. Is this normal behaviour on a Mac?

Hopefully I explained that well enough.

I’d point out that it didn’t do it on my old PC but I hate those comparisons, so I’ll refrain! I'm using a Mini 1.25 ghz 512MB RAM and I'm booting off an external 7200RPM hard drive.

It doesn't do that in QuickTime on most computers I've seen. Windows Media Player seems to wait to buffer everything (even local files), and VLC just isn't really meant for random access.
