I have about 20 gigs of music for itunes, and my iBook only has a 30 gig drive so it won't hold it all. I keep all my music on an external usb 2.0 drive but everytime I load up itunes with the drive disconnected, itunes then reverts to the default of importing my music to my user folder on the iBook drive.

What do others do? I hate having to reselect my folder and have itunes load about 4000+ songs everytime I reconnect the drive.

I upgraded my hard drive. Sorry I don't have a better solution for you. I'm interested to hear if anyone else has successfully solved this problem.

no one else uses an external drive for itunes?

I do . I use the ibook music folder to store my music when adding it to my ipod. Then once I connect my external drive.Within Itunes I click advanced then go to consolidate library. Using this fuction it copies all of my music that was on the ibook to my external hd. Then you can delete the music on your ibook as all the files are on the external hd. When you click locate file in itunes the files will be linked to your external hd and not your ibooks hard drive.
