Hi people

I am new to this community forums and a bit new to MAC. I was looking for some directions on developing toolbars for Safari browser on MAC OS X.

I would like to know the following:

1. How are toolbars developed in mac os x. i mean which language, code etc.
2. Any pointers to some sample code available for writing toolbars for safari browser? I am intending to write a small code that would read the url string and launch an application installed on my mac os x.

I am very eagerly waiting for the response.

Thanks a lot folks.

You can't develop "toolbars" for Safari.

To launch an application from a URL you define a (possibly custom) URL scheme in the info property list of your application and it is automatically launched (regardless of the browser the user uses). See:

Hi TETENAL

Thanks a lot for the reply. I got your answer. But I have a different purpose. Let me explain it here.

I have an applicatoin that stores some values as a part of some xml. I have to invoke the application based on some conditions after parsing the xml. And this whole navigation should start after clicking on the plugin-button inside browser (safari) ? On clicking the button, i should be able to pass the url to the application based on the criteria checks of my xml file.

Any pointers to developing internet plugins?

If that is an xml file with its own mime-type/extension you can write a browser plug-in to display the data and or show a button that will open an external application (like the Flash and QuickTime plug-in). You have the choice between the Netscape plug-in and the Webkit plug-in API. There is an example of either in in /Developer/Examples/WebKit. A Netscape plug-in will work in all Mac OS X browsers, a WebKit plug-in will work in Safari and Shiira only.

Welcome to the forums and the Cult of Mac, amadas. I don't have any help for your actual problem, but some suggestion about posting here. First, you shouldn't post the same topic in 2 places. The moderators get cranky (though I suppose you could look at it as giving them something to do..) Second, the best forum around here for your questions is the Developer forum, though as you can see, there are people in all the forums who know a thing or 2 about Dev stuff..
